Projected enrollments are the denominator of amortized production cost per student. If you overestimate demand, real cost per student rises and margin falls. This is the number most overestimated in Edtech.
This is a projection, not something you "look up" — estimate it from real pre-sales or waitlist numbers if you have them, or from comparable courses in your niche. Practical rule: calculate a conservative scenario (30–40% of your optimistic number) and use that.
Projecting 1,000 students and reaching 200 makes the amortized cost per student 5× higher than planned. That error can turn a profitable model into one that destroys value with each enrollment.

Calculate two scenarios: the optimistic (enrollments you want) and the conservative (30–40% of that number). If the model only works in the optimistic scenario, risk is high. A good Edtech business works in the conservative scenario.
